The Haunted Mansion Stories

I know that anyone with sense is NOT trying to be at Disneyland right now. And,like, fair! If you want the experience without being there, you can "ride" it here. Anyway, the history of Disneyland's Mansion has a super exciting backstory! At first, this ride was intended to be linked to The Pirates of the Caribbean. The Mansion was  a gift from a Sea Captain to his bride, named Priscilla. One Fateful day, Priscilla looked in the attic and found a chest that was filled with...Pirate's Booty! Not the gluten free puffs, but stuff like gold, jewels, and assorted pirate memorabilia. Priscilla was not like me, she was horrified to find out the love of her life was a pirate! Which is weird,I didn't think that sea captains had money like that....Like, obviously he was a pirate lmao.

I think she was upset about the whole piracy thing because he was Captain Blood. This is the #darkacademia in me...Pero like, Captain Blood was actually unironically cool. He was a soldier turned sailor turned doctor turned slave turned pirate. Love that for him. And, he was played by iconic hottie/actor/disaster/slut Errol Flynn. But, highly possible it's a completely different Captain Blood, because I think Warner Brothers has the rights to this character. Oh,and Captain Blood threw his wife down a well!Yes, The whole wife! Her ghost bothered him until he hung himself.A true queen

The first time I heard this, the pirate was named Captain Blood. Other times, I've heard his name was Captain Gore. I think Captain Gore would make more sense. A lo of people have the last name Gore. Something interesting I have found is that Blood and Gore are both Welsh/ Flamish last names. So maybe Captian Blood wanted to revamp and stole the name Gore from someone he grew up with. That's some fanon from ya gal. Of course name etymology is not that important to anyone but me. Gore is also an Indian name! However, it's also completely possible that some lines got crossed and they confused Captain Gore with being a member of the Blood Family that owned Bloodmere manor.

Originally, it was going to be a walk through attraction (boring). Instead of there being a water element, there would be blood.  So, you would look down the well and a voice would be like:

"Ding dong bell, Priscilla's in the well. Who put her in? The evil cap-i-tan!"

Then you would tour the home, and various spooky things would happen. For example, a projection of Priscilla would attack a portrait of Captain Blood. Anyway, it was too hard to get the water/blood effects to work. So, we got a ride instead! They pay homage to the original idea by having a broken hearted bride in the attic! She has since been replaced by Constance Hathaway (also boring).  I think the original vision is pretty neat. I think if Disney chooses to adapt this story into a ride or a walk through, the elevator could be the rider (as Priscila) going down the well. Especially since it's a popular theory that we (the riders) die in the ride. Luckily for me, I've been dead inside since I was ten.

The story behind Disneyland's Haunted Mansion goes like this : In the Antebellum times, Emily and Master Gracey were engaged to be married. However, Madame Leota was also in love with this man. Like the side chick CLOWN she was, Leota was under the impression that if Emily wasn't around, Gracey would marry her.  In true American folk tale fashion, Leota killed Emily and locked her in a trunk. Bummer!

Master Gracey, in his grief over Emily's death died by suicide via hanging...And,wow, the nerve of Leota to still be in the mansion after all of that happened! If weirdos don't have anything, they certainly have the audacity.

Well, this is not exactly what the original imagineers envisioned. There are about four different versions of the story. I kind of think they are all true. A house that brings nothing but death to anyone that lives there is timeless story. Maybe each story is canon and takes place at different periods of time. All I know is Ken Anderson deserves all the love and acknowledgment for giving us such a cool ride... And so many other Disney things!  If anyone is a Disney Legend, it's him. He is responsible for the Gore's Manor story, Bloodmere's forever unrestored Mansion, and elements of his stories were used in Phantom Manor and Main Street Haunted Hotel.
